As we celebrate black history month we recognize those who struggled and fought for civil rights, those who came before us who put their lives at risk for us to enjoy the freedoms we have today, and those who continue to fight for social justice and equality. A time to recognize not only those who came before us but those of today. We can celebrate the love, the strength, the passion, the determination, the greatness, the faith we have in God that keeps us going each day. We can recognize the talent that we African Americans have to offer and how we are a value to this country.

There is a lot of black talent that goes to waste because of the idea that we are not valuable and that our dreams are impossible. The fear of taking that step in trying to make our dream a reality. Will we be accepted, will our voice be heard, will we be given that opportunity of advancement. Taking that step can be very daunting and often times never taken. We have to lift each other up to take that step and when that step is taken to continue to support that endeavor to help lead to success.

I never thought that I would write children's books or start my own independent publishing company. It wasn't anything that I had really thought about until one day it just came to my heart and mind. I did a lot of reading and research before taking that step and continue to do so for improvement. It takes a lot of hard work and determination and not everyone has an overnight success. Sometimes it takes a while to reach that goal and requires determination to keep moving forward when you feel you're getting nowhere. I often find myself in that mindset and struggle with getting myself moving and doing the hard work but because I am valuable, I will continue to press forward. For black history month, I will be celebrating black authors. I start today by saying SUPPORT BLACK INDIE AUTHORS!
